Clerks

What do they do?

  • In charge of the administration side of a set of chambers

  • Must know court procedures and will develop expertise in the areas in which the chambers specializes.

  • Have the behind the scenes roles of coordinating workload and meetings, allocating cases, marketing, finance and barristers’ fee management.

  • For junior barristers’ clerks, duties include taking papers, books and robes to court, delivering urgent documents and making travel plans for barristers.

 

Where do they work?

  • In chambers, but they travel around to whichever courts the barristers work in to deliver papers etc.

  • Is work experience available?

  • Not usually

 

Other details

  • Some clerks also work as practice assistant or manager.
