What is a Mini-Pupillage?
A Mini-Pupillage involves up to two weeks' work experience shadowing a Barrister or working in Chambers. It usually involves trips to court and gives you a taste of what life is like at the Bar, and how it differs from other legal professions.
Where can you do a Mini-Pupillage?
Most Chambers offer 'minis', so it is best to look on their website in the careers section. The Bar Council has also compiled a long list of Chambers which offer minis which is very useful as it has biographies of each chambers. (click here)
How do you apply?
Applications usually involve a cover letter and a CV. A cover letter should outline (1) why you want to be a barrister, (2) why you want work experience in that chambers, (3) what activities you are involved in at university and (4) what dates you are free. (Make sure you check if there are certain deadlines for certain dates, e.g. if you have to apply by 31st December for a Mini Pupillage between February and June).
