CONSTITUTIONAL CHANGES
1. We have entrenched the LGBTQ+, BAME & FEMALE Mentorship scheme into our constitution to preserve the longevity of a scheme created to uplift and motivate traditionally marginalized groups at the Bar. A successive committee would require a unanimous vote at an AGM to alter the shape or form of this mentorship scheme.
2. We have also entrenched the newly created speaker policy into the constitution, which requires the current and any successive committee to first reach out to diverse speakers for any talks that the Society host. If the committee is unsuccessful in doing so, they may reach out to other speakers to fill out any potential gaps. This policy is put in place to rectify years of imbalances which saw our society invite over 98% of speakers who identified themselves as white. This policy has been entrenched to showcase further that there is "No Bar to the Bar" & we are working hard to positively reinforce the idea that the Bar is open to all. A successive committee would require a unanimous vote at an AGM to alter the shape or form of this speaker policy.
3. We entrenched the No Bar to the Bar Webinars, which requires the current and successive committee to hold a plethora of talks throughout the year to increase and promote diversity at the Bar. A successive committee would require a unanimous vote at an AGM to alter the shape or form of the No Bar to the Bar Webinar series.
